Democracy: An endangered idea?
Democracy, a government established in the United States long before our time. But can it be that the U.S. is becoming too democratically flawed?
As the years past the U.S is forgetting their fundamentals: to provide freedom, equal rights, and much more. During the pandemic these flaws have become evident. Racial injustice, human rights being dismissed, not listening to the people's concerns, have become a part of the democratic government to be lost in the shadows of politics. For example, black live matter movement after multiple killings by government officials. The rise in gun violence, especially in schools, has been an issue fought by people in which the government is not listening. Many people are asking, what can be done to bring fair democracy back?
First thing is for the U.S. to take care of itself. U.S. officials are constantly promoting the benefits of democracy to countries that do not have that government established yet there are many flaws and issues that need to be addressed. If the U.S. wants to be an example of democracy, it needs to fix all the problems that are against democracy. It also needs to establish alliances and win the hearts of the media. This is a positive way to show true change in the United states.
So, is democracy dying? Not yet. There are many things that the United States has to work on to make the nation better and truly be able to be called a democratic nation. It will require a reset to get rid of the issues in the government, especially through listening to the people and their concerns.
I agree, the United States has a very flawed system. We preach how righteous our nation is when in reality it’s not. The U.S tends to like the idea of equality without actually executing it. It is more face value and appearances rather than being true. They try to encourage other countries to follow this doctrine of democracy when they aren’t the perfect example of it. It is unfortunate because having a society that uses an actual democracy would be beneficial to lots of groups of people. Hearing the voice of everyone is what a real democracy is, not silencing the voices the government doesn’t want to hear. Living in a society we must consider everyone to make it work effectively.
